Jean Paul Sartre, for example, argued that an individual's personal development could be limited by other people as they act in ways that interfere with a learner's ability to absorb and retain information. This scenario, however, only suggests that humans may fail to reach their true potential, and that sometimes this happens through no fault of their own.

Although we have five senses, sensory perceptions are generally grouped into three areas: kinaesthetic, visual, and auditory. Kinaesthetic perception, also referred to as tactile perception, includes the sense of touch. Tactile perception is important in many domains of early childhood learning, but as children grow older, most of their learning will take place through visual and auditory perception.
