Mind Maps for Presentations
The following Mind Maps have been prepared to give an example of how the technique can be used to help you think though all the things that you need to think about when you are putting your next presentation together.
Using Mind Maps for presentations
- Start by being clear about the focus and purpose of your presentation, from your perspective and that of your audience.
- Then explore possible content, without trying to structure the actual presentation.
- NOTE – these first two stages are best done on a single Mind Map (see additional map).
- Next decide a possible structure for your presentation but be prepared to consider several different structures (on different Mind Maps) before settling on one.
- Finally prepare a simple Mind Map to present from.
Mind Map 1 - The presentation 'overview' Mind Map - your initial planning. Stages 1 and 2 are covered in greater detail in the following Mind Map.
When using Mind Maps for presentations there is great value in getting many different aspects of your presentation onto your first map. The different aspects – your objectives, the audience’s objectives, details about the event etc will inform your ideas for possible content and ways of presenting your ideas.
Include your ideas for anecdotes and stories as well as thinking about how to inspire your audience if that is appropriate.
The following Mind Map is not meant to cover all presentations, but should give an indication of the sort of thinking that you should be doing.
Mind Map 2 -An indication of the sort of thinking that you should be doing.
